Rebuilding via AFS Explorer

AFS Explorer on the whole is very straight forward. I do not really need to explain how to import/export files using it here since its just a case of right clicking and everything makes sense. I however would like to go through one aspect of AFS Explorer which seems to cause a lot of confusion for some, the rebuilding AFS function. Hopefully by the end of this tutorial, this function will be much clearer for you if you are having trouble getting some files into the .IMG files.

Please note for PES 2008, even though the files are .img extensions, they are essentially AFS files still, so that is why I refer to it as rebuilding the AFS, it essentially means rebuilding the .img files.

Disclaimer: Always back up original files when undertaking modifications to respective game files. I take no responsibility of any malfunctioning of the game after such changes are undertaken, insert modifications at your own risk.

Rebuilding AFS files to create more space

Specially if you need to import some of the newer graphics into PES 2008, at some stage you will need to rebuild the default file in order to create more space for the larger files. Well here is how you go about doing just that.

1. Open AFS Explorer.

2. Select File > Import AFS File... Search for file cv_0.img (or the file in question) from your PES 2008 "img" folder and open it. It will take a few seconds to load, wait patiently.

3. Now select Advanced > Modify Reserved Space...

A Reserved space window opens whereas you can increase/decrease allocated bytes reserved for specific files using the up/down arrows on the top right.

4. Now click Regenerate AFS! and build file cv_0new.img (you can rename it as before afterwards).

5. Once the file is rebuilt, you can now import the larger files into the spaces which they wouldn't go into before using the traditional right click method (To import the new file click with right mouse button on the file to replace and select import file. Import file as required).

6. Repeat this with the other files as necessary.

7. Update and save AFS and you are done.
